Press Release – Bhavishya – International Conference 2016

Mumbai, 18th Feb, One day International Conference on Higher Education, “Bhavishya – Udaan Naye Bharat Ki” concluded today at Thakur College of Science & Commerce. This conference was jointly organized by the Department of Accounting & Finance and Department of Business Communication and the theme of the conference was ‘Scaling New Heights & Horizons in Higher Education.’

The conference started with an Inaugural Function, where Ms. Jo Davis [Representative of US Universities] was the Guest of Honour, Dr. Mohammad Iqbal Ali, Former Vice-Chancellor, Satavahana University, was the Keynote Speaker and Ms. Urmila Devi, Joint Secretary, UGC was the Chief Guest for the programmme. Dr. (Mrs.) C.T. Chakraborty, Principal, Thakur College of Science & Commerce said, “The definition of education has changed in last few years. Today, the expectations from an educated person has increased manifold. Bhavishya has provided us the platform to address the problems of higher education.”

The conference was a great success as eminent personalities and research scholars from all over the world graced the occasion. Dr. Sanjay Bhayani, Dean, Saurashtra University, Dr. Radhakrishan Pillai, Director, Chanakya Institute of Public Leadership, Dr. Balwant Singh, Dean, JJTU to name a few. Mrs. Smriti Irani, Minister (HRD) sent her wishes for the conference through mail. She said, “This conference comes as a gentle reminder that we have a long way to go to excel and to leave a mark in the realm of education around the world.” Mr. Devendra Fadnavis, Chief Minister, Maharashtra said, “Higher Education scenario in India is a major concern to be addressed. I am happy to know that Thakur College is making efforts to find solutions on this front at International level.”

The USP of the conference was that, along with paper presentation, parallel seminar on higher education was also conducted. The seminar had sessions ranging from IT and engineering to journalism and advertising. This objective of this Conference was to provide a platform to the Academicians, Learners & Corporate to discuss and analyze the current scenario of the Indian Higher Education System. It is the apt time for India to make its transition to an economy that creates, propagates and applies knowledge to enhance its growth and development.

The one day International Conference cum Seminar was organized in collaboration with University of Mumbai. Many foreign universities like Long Island, James Madison, The University of Vermont, The University of Maine and Merrimack College (all USA) had also collaborated with the conference. Latrobe University from Australia, Royal Roads University form Canada and Uclan University from UK were also associated.

The Conference culminated with a Valedictory Function and winners from different tracks were:

  • Commerce & Management: Mr. Bashir Ahmed Joo and Ms. Kohab Durri, from Kashmir.
  • Law & Government Policies: Ms. Naincy Vishwakarma and Ms. Rashi Singh from F.Y.B.Com. TCSC.
  • Physical Education & Yoga: Dr. Vaidehi Kamat
  • Science & Technology: Prof. Manali Shah & Akansha Rawat
  • Skill Education & Innovation: Ms. Priya Francis & Ms. Lalitha Bhat, Jr. College, TCSC.
  • Other Relevant Subjects: Prof. Mangesh V. Panchal
